Video of Virtua Cop 3 in action on the Xbox 1 posted by Garcimak.

The Chihiro arcade game Virtua Cop 3 running on a so called "Trusty"-modded Xbox 1 which means it has a boosted CPU and 128mb ram.

The game might run fine with *only* a 128mb ram mod, but it's currently unconfirmed.

The 128mb ram mod is possible on all Xboxes except the very last 1.6 revision (slots have been removed on 1.6). The Xbox has 3 or 4 empty slots for the extra ram so all you need is a a second Xbox that you can remove the 64mb ram from and put into the other Xbox. It's not a total walk in the park to do and some soldering skills are for sure needed (and about 5 hours of time:) )

Chihiro arcade games running on 128mb ram modded Xboxes.

The guys over at Assemblergames and Emuxtras have figured out a way to run Chihiro arcade games on modchipped/softmodded Xboxes with the extra 128mb mod, sadly the standard xboxes only came with 64mb ram so these games do boot on those but they seem to crash after entering the menu (this is the case with Virtua Cop 3 at least.)

The cool thing is that the chihiro is soo similar to the xbox so Virtua Cop 3 even works with the xbox lightgun!.

Follow the progress in this thread here!: http://www.emuxtras.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=187&t=1315

Extra info from wikipedia:

"The Sega Chihiro system is a Sega arcade system board based on the architecture of the Xbox. The 733 MHz Intel Pentium III CPU and the Nvidia XChip graphics processor are common to both. Unlike the Xbox, Chihiro can support up to 512MB RAM through add-in memory modules. Chihiro games are distributed on Sega GD-ROM media, instead of standard DVD-ROM used by the Xbox.

Because the Chihiro and Xbox share the same hardware architecture, porting from the Chihiro is theoretically easier than porting from a different arcade platform. In practice, the much smaller memory-capacity of the Xbox (64MB), presents a formidable challenge for home-conversions of arcade titles which use Chihiro's larger memory configuration, however the Xbox release of OutRun 2 was able to retain the look and feel of the original 512 MB arcade version."

Games available for Chihiro:

Crazy Taxi High Roller
Ghost Squad
Gundam Battle Operating Simulator
Ollie King
Out Run 2
Sega Club Golf 2006 Next Tours
Sega Network Taisen Mahjong MJ 2
Sega Network Taisen Mahjong MJ 3
The House of the Dead III
Virtua Cop 3
Ford Racing Full Blown

#CD64 message board still standing after 10 years.

Here's a funny thing I found , it's the old message board for the #CD64 IRC channel (which is long gone) but it's still being hosted here http://www.network54.com/Forum/12471/

The last post is from January 2001 which is the same year the N64 died in EU/US (yes I know Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 came out 2002 in low production but it doesn't count:P ).

I find the post "No Hope for Banjo Tooie. Woolie, Nov 24, 2000" specially funny cause 11 years later it would actually finally get cracked ;). http://www.network54.com/Forum/12471/message/975715511/Confirmed/

The owner of http://www.neogeoprotos.com/ posted this clip back in April on youtube, he also has a old article on the game here: http://www.neogeoprotos.com/games/last_odyssey.htm

Bart reveals some new pictures of his Sega Model 3 emu.

"A lot of people have been asking me when the next version of Supermodel will be released. The answer is: when it's ready. I'd like to get it out before the end of the month so I can start working on dynamic recompiling CPU cores but I can't guarantee anything given my hectic schedule. There are still some sound bugs to resolve and lots of little loose ends to tie up here and there before a release can be made."

Keep your eyes peeled to his blog for updates: http://www.trzy.org/Supermodel/WhatsNew.html

GoldenEye: X - Patch 4a Released.

"Welcome to Patch 4a of the GoldenEye: X project! Since the most recent release, we've been working to bring in new content, but also improve things already released. You'll find four more maps available for play in Virtual Reality mode, and some updates to already available ones.

Every standard body and head is now available, as well as some bonus heads wearing those ever-cool sunglasses. Some edits have been made to weapons, correcting muzzle flash locations and on-screen positioning. The GoldenEye sight is your default aimer, and can even be used in multiplayer.

Other colouration changes have been made in an attempt to better help distinguish GE:X from Perfect Dark. For more information, check out the detailed list below. Those of us working on the GoldenEye: X project sincerely hope you enjoy this update to the game, and would like to thank everyone for their continued support."

Pokemon Breeder Mini Translated.

Rejoice Pokemon fans over the world, Pokemon Breeder Mini has been fan translated! (ポケモンそだてやさんミニ Pokemon Sodateyasan Mini).

"The most text intensive game for the Pokémon mini is now playable in English ! Thanks to the efforts of Mr.Blinky, snesy and Wa"

"I was worried for a while on successfully completing the translation due to difficulties in translating the large quantity of japanese dialogs. After doing all the graphic translations and code patches I was simply stuck, Unable to translate those dialogs.

Months passed by without any progress. But then, Lupin found someone who is very good at japanese. This person is no one else then snesy.

He's great at japanese. As soon as he joined, it took him just a couple of days to translate all those japanese dialogs. With the translations now done I could pick up the thread and continue. Less then two weeks later I finished the translation."

The 64drive release is nearing!.

Newsletter from the maker of the 64drive:

"It all started as a "what if"... if I could have anything for my N64, what would be it be? No restrictions on cost, no cheaping out on features. For once, a clean and polished product with good aesthetic sense.

Tinkering with the N64 has been my foremost hobby for more than 5 years now. I love pretty much everything about it, not just the games but the system and its hardware. This has given me a unique opportunity to create something for N64 lovers using my accumulated knowledge and skill.

The project itself is coming very near to a releasable state. I just released a video on YouTube a few days ago.

In addition to being an enticing item for collectors, the 64drive is an extremely versatile tool for coding. Its USB 2.0 capabilities alone already eclipse any other N64 "backup" product ever made, and that's just the start.

Once the 64drive launches I will release a detailed PDF document giving specific information on the cartridge's hardware design and how to write code to use its features, including access of the USB functionality and memory card. A debugging LED and button come on each board standard.

As far as release goes, the first units will be sold in the coming weeks. I will be sending out updates as the day approaches.

Thank you all for showing your support, and giving me the encouragement to develop this amazing product.

-marshallh"

Robinson's Requiem released for the Atari Jaguar commercially.

N64 PIF/CIC-NUS-6105 Algorithm Reverse Engineered.

"Recently, LaC challanged us to find a small and concise algorithm that would emulate the behaviour of PIF/CIC-NUS-6105 challenge/response (C/R) protection scheme.

This would allow the replacement of 'pif2.dat' file of Project 64, that contains all the 268 C/R pairs used by 'Jet Force Gemini' and 'Banjo Tooie', with a concise algorithm.

After many hours of careful, exhaustive and detailed analysis of 'pif2.dat' C/R pairs, I'm pleased to announce that I've finally found a very concise algorithmic representation of the C/R process, which emulates the desired behaviour of the PIF/CIC-NUS-6105."

---> http://www.emutalk.net/threads/53217-N64-PIF-CIC-NUS-6105-Algorithm-Finally-Reversed

What does this actually mean? well it means that Banjo Tooie will work on the upcoming 64drive flashcart and any other flashcart that doesn't have a host cart port! (when somebody makes a crack;) and the issues these games had in Surreal 64 for Xbox 1 will be solved.

X-Scale - N64 hero of the month!:)

"Hi, about 10 minutes ago I was found a page on yolkfolk.com which had downloadable dreamworld pogie source.

When I opened archive, it was like "Oh, no!!"
but..name of files, and numbers of it was logical. For second I though it's too easy, but...
The only thing that needed to be done with sources was...merging files together..that's all.Oh, and change file to *NES.Header from Adventurer Dizzy plays it's role excellent.
And so, I'm first Dizzy fan to play this game(?).
I knew Yolkfolk.com and Dizzy.pl powers combined can overcome anything."

Chinese Playstation 1 on Dealextreme.

Released some month ago, it most likely contains some sort of low speced computer inside running linux with a Playstation 3 clone gui and a port of maybe Mplayer for video playback and Pcsx for the playstation games.

If anyone buys one then feel free to make a youtube video where you test alot of different games cause they suspiciously only show one game in their odd trailer and it's a 2D game (KOF98/99 with Street Fighter sound fx? hmmmm) so it would be interesting to see some advanced 3D games in action.

If you look in the middle of the page theres a official site for this thing that hosts isos for it! http://www.dealextreme.com/p/play-station-psi-multi-game-platform-tv-video-game-console-with-usb-sd-ms-av-hdmi-pal-ntsc-70928

Receipt Racer, printer game by Joshua Noble & Undef.

"The game is played on a receipt printer, a common device you can see at every convenient store. It prints those papers you usually find crumbled up in your pockets, just to throw them away. It is a thermal printer using heat to darken the paper.

This eliminates any slowdowns in printing lots of black. A roll can be ordered online and costs around 80 cents. 50 meters is the maximum distance you are theoretically able to race in one run, before running out of paper. So ecologically it's pretty much a disaster, just like any real car."

Back to basics :).

GameBoy Sewing Machine on Ebay.

"What is it? Well, it's what you think it is. It's a sewing machine that has built-in GameBoy functionality. Pretty crazy, eh?

Apparently there was a partnership between Nintendo and nu yell to produce a sewing machine that connects to a GameBoy. Enclosed is special software that you run on the GameBoy and you make designs from the console and the sewing machine produces it. It's one of those "only Nintendo would think of that" items from Japan. There is a panel on back that has a GameBoy accessory attachment cable. Even the GameBoy color was made to match the color of the top of the sewing machine."

America Daitōryō Senkyo - The 1988 US Election 8bit Style.

"George H. W. Bush, vice President from Texas. Moderate WASP who believes in free trade."

"Michael Dukakis, an underdog candidate who would provide a challenge for an expert player to get into office."

"Jesse Jackson,a religious politician who vows to bring back Christian values to America."

"Robert, a Televangelist. born in Virginia. Ultra-conservative. New Light Christian (?), Anti-communist. " <-- from japanese wikipedia hehe, i'm not from the US but from the looks of things this dude is just a fictional character based on American christian televangelists from the 80's I guess:).

Oddly enough I don't see Al Gore anywhere in game, maybe somebody with Japanese skills can find him :). The game is text based so more or less impossible to play if you don't know Japanese.

"The priorities of the policies that the player can make were introduced to the game as the situation was in 1988 because of the Soviet Union and the COCOM. In 1991, the dissolution of the Soviet Union would eventually lead to COCOM being disbanded in 1994. South Africa had an apartheid at the time and abolished in it 1991. The Panama Canal was returned in 1999 to the people of Panama. However, it differs from the political situation encountered in the game. The "AIDS patient isolation" issue was showing an event of discriminatory policy of an era that had not shown wide public awareness about how the AIDS viruses spreads from person to person."

Wikipedia has done a pretty good job on the article of this game, it's missing a few fictional characters which are in the Japanese article though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_Dait%C5%8Dry%C5%8D_Senkyo

Sega Saturn region-free Bios released by d4s.

"Yeah, so I hacked the Sega Saturn Bios and removed regional lockout and CD authenticity checks. Obviously, that was the reason I was dying to get a Saturn a couple of days earlier. Thanks to an unnamed individual, I've got one now and promptly installed that modified Bios.

Good news first: regional lockout bypass works just fine on real hardware.
Install this Bios in your Saturn and play any authentic game in any video mode you like, no need for clunky switches or cartridges anymore.

The bad news: Although the CD authenticity checks in the Bios have been removed, CD-R copies still don't boot.
I basically have zero debugging capabilities on real hardware, so I can't really tell what the exact problem is, but credible sources suggest that the CD interface has to be unlocked by initializing with a genuine Saturn disc before being able to boot a game disc. This is rather unsatisfying, but I'm releasing this anyway, it's better than nothing."

Major Damage dumped for Sega Saturn.

"Major Damage was developed by the US division of Capcom. In the game you control Major Damage himself or his sidekick (Carnage), shooting your way through 16 action packed levels.

Various power-ups can be picked up along the way, such as med-kits, missiles and rapid fire. Major Damage can aim in all directions (much like Metal Slug) and can perform the art of rocket jumping. It is been said later stages included vehicles for the player to enter."

Battery-less, drag 'n' drop, USB Game Boy cartridge.

"What is it? I'm building a new Gameboy cartridge. Not GBA, not DS, original Gameboy. Why? Because a lot of people still use them, in particular for creating music with software like Johan Kotlinski's LSDj. And to do this, you need a flashable cartridge.

Why? Currently available carts need custom drivers to talk to a computer, and for many types, a cart reader device. This limits their compatibility, and the drivers tend to be poorly maintained after release, too.

Another issue is that all current carts use battery-backed RAM to save user data to - read: music that artists have spent many hours on. These batteries can last ten years in a well-designed system - from the date of manufacture, putting a lifespan on the cartridge and leading to scary reliability issues as they age."

I've been using it for some days now on my laptop from 2006 and it runs uber smooth on just 512mb ram while looking just as slick as something like Mac OSX for example so there's really no reason to use the more bulkier Ubuntu, specially not if you're on a 10/5 year old computer.

The lowest system requirements are 300mhz i386 Processor and 128megs of RAM!. Slap it on a usb stick and try it or do a full install!: http://www.bodhilinux.com

All of Geocities now mirrored on Archive.org.

Fire up your favorite download manager cause now Archive.org has the whole backup of Geocities that The Archive Team made! ---> http://www.archive.org/details/2009-archiveteam-geocities-part1

The whole thing is aprox 688gig or so and it's definitely recommended that you use a 2tb hdd to unpack the whole shebang on cause it's first packed in .7z then in .Gtar.

Also if you're filthy rich then give a chunk of money to archive.org, they're storing this shit for free! :).

MGD2 - Multi Game Doctor 2 Brochure.

Don't think this brochure is available anywhere else on the net , thanks to ]RowaN[ for digging through his old stash :).

As far as I know the only backup unit that supported the Neogeo AES, but I only think it runs early small first gen games like Nam 1975, probably easier to buy a chinese bootleg cart these days but these old archaic backup units are charming none the less:).
