    Could anyone make a youtube tutorial on how to establish and use these things? I would be really interested in that. You know... just in case, you never know what happens, even in Western Europe ;)

    Actually you can use wi-fi networks/local networks to communicate from one household to another and then if someone can make phone calls abroad/has access to the internet, use it to send packets abroad. Old fidonet software like binkley+/t-mail/hpt/golded/fastecho/frontdoor can be still used. If people in Egypt really need help with this stuff, I guess most of us, fidonet sysops, are ready to help.

    Johann, you just need to have a modem/ifcico as a transport program (available on unixes) or t-mail/frontdoor/etc. Than you will need a fidonet address (get a point at one of the ip-only fidonet nodes or just make up one), you'll need a fidonet tosser like hpt, mail editor like golded.
    If you really need all this stuff just ask one of the fidonet sysops.
